We are seeing increased questions about smart or AI-enabled glasses in our schools. Because these devices can take photos, record audio or video, and connect to the internet without anyone knowing, they raise serious concerns related to privacy, safety, and academic integrity.
Schools are high-trust spaces Students and staff should not have to wonder whether they are being recorded during class or in everyday interactions. Recording can quickly lead to bullying, online posting, or other harm.
Privacy concerns are especially serious in restrooms and locker rooms. Students have a reasonable expectation of privacy in these spaces, and secret recording can carry severe school consequences and potential criminal penalties under Idaho law. Any recording—or suspected recording—in these areas would trigger an immediate response and may involve law enforcement.
Smart glasses can also create unfair testing advantages The College Board explicitly prohibits smart glasses during SAT and AP exams. Students may be required to remove them during testing or test another day with standard glasses. If a student’s only prescription eyewear is smart glasses, this can create avoidable stress and complications.
Our Recommendation Please do not purchase smart glasses as your student’s only prescription eyewear. If your family chooses to use them, ensure your student has standard glasses available for daily school use and all testing situations. The safest course of action is to simply reserve smart glasses for outside-of-school use.
We appreciate your partnership in keeping our schools safe, respectful, and focused on learning.
Sincerely, Boise School District Administration |

BSU is gearing up for our third annual Health Sciences Camp at Boise State. The camp offers high school juniors and seniors of the 2026-27 year an exceptional opportunity to explore healthcare professions and health science programs at Boise State, learning through hands-on experience from our world-class faculty and Bachelor degree students, all while receiving a taste of life on campus with like-minded peers.
Their first two years of operation, they received overwhelming positive feedback from students and parents as their camp is the only one of its kind in Idaho, as well as a top option for the Pacific Northwest and West Coast regions.
This year, they are expanding their capacity to 50 students, and they still have spots available. They prioritize seating for incoming juniors and seniors of the 2026-27 year, but if students who are graduating this spring and are interested to attend, they will place them on a wait list until April 10 to allow eligible students the opportunity to apply first. As well, they have $200 scholarships available for those in need.
