Attendance Information
-
If you need your student to leave campus, we are asking you to do the following:
- Parent/Guardian: Please make sure your student is aware in advance that they have permission to leave school between a specific passing period, break or during lunch. See bell schedules below. No passes are necessary when leaving during these times.
- After communicating with your student, please excuse the absence by calling or emailing attendance at 208-854-6235 or timberlineattendance@boiseschools.org.
- If you would like your student to leave at a time when class is in session, the attendance office must issue a pass allowing the student to leave. We ask that parents call or email at least 1 hour before your students pick up time. You can also call in the morning or even the day before. Your student will then receive the pass and leave at the stated time on the PTL (Pass To Leave). We recommend that if your student needs to leave within the first 10 minutes of class, that they leave before the class during break, lunch or passing period to avoid passes being delivered too late.
- Students: You are not permitted to leave while class is in session without a PTL. Teachers will not let students leave while class is in session without a pass.
- If your student is arriving late to school, please have them check in at the Attendance Office.
- If you have a note from a doctor, an absence can be marked MD ‘Medically Exempt.” Feel free to email the doctor's note to timberlineattendance@boiseschools.org.
- If your student is sick or needs to leave immediately for an emergency, please have your student come to the attendance window and we will call you for confirmation. If the student is unaware and you are unable to contact them, please call the attendance line and we will get your student out as quickly as possible. Please reserve this method for sickness and emergencies as it is difficult for us to do and may interrupt your students' entire class.
-
Parents/Guardians are required to call the school’s ATTENDANCE OFFICE, 208-854-6535, to excuse each period of a student’s absences and repeat this call each day the student will not be in attendance. An answering machine is available 24 hours a day. Emails will also be accepted at Timberlineattendance@boiseschools.org. District policy requires that an absence be excused within 48 hours or a truancy will be issued. See Board Policy 3121
- All classroom activities, materials, and assignments are accessible within the student’s specific Google Classroom set up by the teacher. All students are also required to check out a school issued device for the school year to ensure access to the classroom curriculum at all times for students to utilize even when away from school.
- If student households are struggling to provide access to the internet, please contact the school for information on accessing community resources.
-
All absences, either for a partial or entire day, need to be excused by a phone call or a note from a parent/guardian within 48 hours of the absence.
Even though an absence is "excused", it will still count against the student's attendance unless one of the following occurs:- Medical documentation is provided from a health care provider.
- Legal documentation is provided proving required attendance for court appointment.
- A student is placed in house detention.
- A student is participating in a school sponsored activity (i.e., field trips, performances, class competitions, sporting events sanctioned by the district).
- (NOTE: Club sports such as hockey, lacrosse, and ski team, are not sanctioned sports and district policy dictates that they cannot be considered "Activity Absences". These still need to be excused by a parent, but are appealable if the student exceeds the 9 absence limit.)
In the event that a student will be gone for 3 or more days, for any reason, a "Pre Arranged Extended Absence" form is available for convenience of gathering home
Class Absences:
- Arriving more than 20 minutes late counts as an absence.
- Any student arriving at school more than ten minutes after the tardy bell has rung is required to check in at the Attendance Office with their School ID and pick up a Tardy Slip to take with them to class.
- Students must appeal for credit in any class for which they receive more than 6 tardies.
When a student transfers from one school to another within the Boise School District, the student’s attendance and disciplinary records will transfer to the new school. Absences and truancies accumulated in one school will be recorded and counted at the new school.
Parent Notification of Absences will be mailed home at 5, 8, and 10 absences. Students are given an Appeal for Loss of Credit Form after receiving their 10th absence in any class and are required to submit their Appeal to their Assistant Principal within 5 school days after receiving it.
