Dear Timberline High Parent / Guardian,
This year school staff are working to teach students about mental health and how to seek help if they are worried about themselves or a friend. We are using a program called SOS Signs of Suicide. The program teaches students about this difficult topic and encourages them to seek help.
SOS has been used by thousands of schools for over 20 years. Studies have shown that it effectively teaches students about depression and suicide while reducing the number of students’ self-reported suicide attempts.
Through the program, students learn:
- that depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
- how to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend
- to ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend
- who they can turn to at school for help
On November 9th and 10th, students will watch age-appropriate video clips and participate in a guided discussion about identifying who their trusted adults are and what to do if they are concerned about a friend. Following the video, students will complete a brief depression screening form. This form cannot provide a diagnosis of depression but does indicate whether a young person should seek help from a mental health professional. At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to ask to talk with an adult about any concerns. School staff will conduct brief meetings with any student asking to talk.
We encourage you to visit www.mindwise.org/parents for information on warning signs for youth suicide, useful resources, and some of the key messages students will learn.
We also encourage you to review:
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in this program you can contact Principal Chad Wright ( chad.wright@boiseschools.org) or any of our school counselors.
Sincerely,
Timberline High School Administration

Dear Boise School District Families, Students, Staff, and Community Members,
We recognize that these changes could affect families in different ways. Please review the current and proposed schedules, background information, and potential benefits and challenges included in the survey, then let us know whether you support the proposal.
The survey closes at 5 p.m. Mountain Time on December 4, 2026.
Results will be shared with the Board of Trustees during its December or January Board meeting and will help inform its final decision. No final decision has been made.
Thank you for sharing your perspective and helping the Board consider the needs of our students, families, and community.
Sincerely,
Boise School District Administration

A Clear Skies therapist will meet with students at school and is able to accept many insurance plans.
If you think your student may benefit from this support or if you have questions, please reach out to your student’s counselor or Katy Metzger, Timberline Social Worker:

The Boise St. Luke’s Volunteer Department will be opening the application for new prospective Junior volunteers on November 2nd at 8 am. I highly recommend, if your students are interested in applying, to do so first thing in the morning (the application open 24 hours). We can only accommodate around twenty new juniors in our program this year. The link below is the site for students to apply the “day of” November 2nd at 8:00am, the application will not allow access until that day. I have also attached the informative Pdf that can be shared in your newsletters, posted etc.
* The St. Luke's Junior Volunteer Program cannot successfully accommodate new volunteers past their Junior year of high school due to limited time and opportunities.
